John Paul Jamieson - Possible Connections

It is widely recorded that this John Paul Jamieson was born in Aberdeen. No dates are given nor are any parents or other family members ever offered.

It is not know if born in Aberdeen means the City of Aberdeen or that general greater area, or for that matter even the very much larger Aberdeenshire. There were Jam?son families to be found in any and all of this "Aberdeen" during the entire seventeenth century.

It would be reasonable to assume if this John Paul Jamieson died in the year 1700, he would have, given his known whereabouts and accomplishments, probably have lived until his death somewhere between fifty and eighty (50-80) or so years. This would then have likely put his birth as somewhere between 1625-1650.

There is no apparent official (or other) records for a birth of any "John Paul Jamieson" during this time in all of Scotland. There are however, three (3) official O.P.R., records for the birth of various "John Jam?sons," in Aberdeen appropriate to the timing and place, of this John Paul Jamieson.

The name Paul, is however, rare for any Jam?son family in Scotland at this time. As far as can be determined, there is no actual official births known with the given name Paul in all of Scotland, although there is a record for a birth of a "Pawll" Jamesone, and he was born in 1630 and in Aberdeen. This Pawll Jamesone was born to George and Isabella (Tosche) Jamesone, the famous Scottish artist, on 27 October 1639, in the St. Nicholas Parish of Aberdeen.

Without further information, it would be difficult to say which, if any, of these possibilities would be the John Paul Jamieson who died in Edinburgh in 1700.

It is said that this John Paul Jamieson, died at Edinburgh on March 25, 1700. There is (perhaps coincidentally) an O.P.R. Death Record - here - for a John Jameson who is recorded as having died 26 March 1700, in Edinburgh. It is however, difficult to know if this is the same person.
